A California man was killed in a car accident on the way to his brother's wedding rehearsal dinner Friday, according to ABC. Eric Stein, 36, was supposed to be the best man at his brother's wedding the next day.
Stein and his wife Ksenia, who had been married six months earlier, were turning into the rehearsal venue when a Los Angeles County fire department vehicle responding to a call slammed into the car on the driver's side. Stein was pronounced dead at the scene, while his wife was airlifted to a hospital.
Eric Stein's family said the actions of the fire truck driving were negligent and that the vehicle was going too fast for traffic to react to what was happening.
In a statement to ABC, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said they could not comment on the accident because of ongoing investigations, but they are deeply saddened by the tragedy and their thoughts and prayers are with the family.
A GoFundMe page, which has since raised over $18,000, has been set up to help Ksenia Stein cover her husband's burial costs. "We don't have Eric with us and we never will," Stein's mother, Karen Kirn, told ABC. "The accident should not have happened."
