Photos: Nigerian woman dies in fire outbreak in Saudi Arabia

An unidentified Nigerian woman, three Canadians and a Pakistani are among at least 10 people that lost their lives in a fire outbreak that engulfed parts of a residential compound rented by oil giant Saudi Aramco, in Saudia Arabia yesterday August 30th. According to a statement the Saudi Arabian government, 10 people died while 259 were injured.

 A preliminary investigation suggests a short circuit in an electrical transformer in the building's basement sparked the blaze which quickly spread through 130 cars parked in the basement.

Ex-governor Akpabio escapes death in Abuja auto crash

A former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, now Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, escaped death Monday morning after his car got involved in an accident along the Airport Road in Abuja.
PREMIUM TIMES learnt that the accident occurred near the Bolingo Junction close to the Ship House, Abuja.
A witness said Mr. Akpabio was moving in a convoy of vehicles towards the City Gate when his vehicle ran into another car.

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, has inaugurated 20 Mobile Intensive Care Unit ambulances and 26 transport ambulances.

According to reports, popular Vanguard newspaper columnist and broadcaster, Donu Kogbara, was kidnapped from her home in the Nkpogu area of Port Harcourt early Sunday morning, August 30 by gun men who drove in a CRV SUV. The reason for her kidnap is unknown and no ransom has been demanded for her release by her abductors.

EFCC sets up four-man panel on Diezani

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has commenced a full investigation into the activities of the immediate past Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

It was learnt on Sunday that the commission constituted a four-member committee of crack detectives to probe all the NNPC accounts which were supervised by the former minister.

It was learnt that the committee was led by a Superintendent of Police, who was seconded to the commission.

Mum jailed and fined for loud sex romps

A mum jailed for her ear-splitting sex romps has been hauled through the courts again for causing more noise problems. Gemma Wale, 22, was handed a two-week prison term earlier this year for making neighbours' lives a misery with her high-volume antics.

Now Wale, of Cherrywood Road, Bordesley Green, Birmingham, has been fined £150 for bombarding nearby resident Ghazala Bibi with "noise pollution", including banging doors, throwing objects, arguing and shouting.

Congregation chases Lagos pastor from church for impregnating member

There was commotion on Sunday at the United Methodist Church, Mafoluku, in the Oshodi area of Lagos as members of the church rejected their pastor and chased him away for allegedly impregnating his housemaid. 28 yrs old man marries 68 yrs old Swedish woman.

28-year-old Guvnor Ace (born Ronald Samawere) who had earlier been accused of 'dating an ancestor' got married to 68-year-old Lisa Johnson on August 20 in a civil ceremony held at the Uganda Registration Service Bureau in Kampala before friends and family members. Speaking to Uganda’s WBS TV on why he married his wife, the Ugandan dance-hall artiste said that young girls are a financial liability and some are not genuine.

The Department of State Services has arrested 20 suspected Boko Haram commanders in Lagos, Kano, Enugu, Plateau and Gombe states.

The suspects, who were arrested between July 8 and August 25, 2015, include the masterminds of the suicide attacks in Potiskum, Kano, Zaria, and Jos.

The DSS in a statement by an official, Tony Opuiyo, on Sunday in Abuja, said those arrested were notable commanders and frontline members of the notorious group from different parts of the country.
