Valentina Maureira, a Chilean teen with cystic fibrosis who made international headlines in February for asking the government to euthanize her has died, 9 News reports.
14-year-old Valentina went viral after uploading a video to her Facebook page pleading with Chilean president Michelle Bachelet to let her die, because she was "tired of living with this disease." She also said she'd already lost her older brother Mike to the same disease.
President Bachelet visited Maureira in the hospital and said she offered whatever support the family needed; however, euthanasia and assisted suicide are illegal in Chile, and the government was unable to fulfill Maureira's request.
Maureira's father Fredy told Chilean radio station Bio Bio on Thursday that Valentina is finally "resting in peace."
